Staying active at home 

Sport England has compiled some great ideas for staying active in and around your home. The activities span different age groups and life stages (e.g. exercising with children at home and exercises for older people). They also include suggestions for people with a physical disability (e.g. the NHS chair workout for people in wheelchairs).

 

Your clients can share their ideas on social media using #StayInWorkOut.

Activity alliance

The UK activity alliance website has useful tips and resources to support people with a disability to be more active, how we can adapt our activity habits and move more while at home.

You can download the Being active guide. Also includes a parasport home workout option.

Make Healthy Normal

Developed by NSW Health, the Make Healthy Normal campaign has  online exercise workouts of varying intensity. 

Exercise videos for older people

Home exercises for older people  targeting strength, endurance and balance. The Go 4 Life campaign developed by the US National Institute on Ageing has developed a number of different exercise workouts for older people. Some of these may be suitable for people with a disability.

There are 12 separate workout videos and you can download photos of various home exercises .

This Girl Can 

The UK campaign This Girl Can has a useful list of exercises to try at home, from table top press ups to living room wall sits. They are great for women and men alike.

Gym free workouts

Developed by the UK National Health service. From sofa workouts to cardio jumps, the NHS has put together illustrated guides showing some other equipment-free workouts, many of which you can do at home.

Home workout videos 

Developed by the UK National Health service. A series of 3 home  workouts. a ten minute Cardio workout, stretching and strengthening and a cool down workout are available.

Exercise videos for people with osteoporosis

Developed by Osteoporosis Canada there are various patient stories, exercise videos, advice and videos on safely completing daily activities and a range of printable resources. The videos were mainly filmed in a gym/rehabilitation setting but could be adapted.
