Staying active at home 

Sport England has compiled some great ideas for staying active in and around your home. The activities span different age groups and life stages (e.g. exercising with children at home and exercises for older people). They also include suggestions for people with a physical disability (e.g. the NHS chair workout for people in wheelchairs).

Exercises to do while the kettle boils  

A 5 minute strength and balance exercise routine to complete in the kitchen in the time it takes to boil the kettle. Can be completed several times a day to build up strength and balance.

Fall prevention exercises 

Developed by the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy, this is a short 4 minute animated video showing 4 key fall prevention exercises.

Exercise videos for older people

Home exercises for older people  targeting strength, endurance and balance. The Go 4 Life campaign developed by the US National Institute on Ageing has developed a number of different exercise workouts for older people.

There are 12 separate workout videos and you can download photos of various home exercises .

Simple balance exercises 

An 8 minute video from the WA Stay on Your Feet Falls Prevention Program focused on home exercises to improve strength and balance in older people. Scroll down to locate the relevant video.

This video shows older people completing these exercises in their homes. Exercises can be graded according to ability.

The 2020 active calendar

This calendar includes images and instructions  for strength and balance exercises and a month by month chart to mark whether the daily exercises have been completed.

Exercise videos for people with osteoporosis

Developed by Osteoporosis Canada there are various patient stories, exercise videos, advice and videos on safely completing daily activities and a range of printable resources. 

Foot and ankle exercise program

Developed by researchers at La Trobe University, Foothold is a foot and ankle exercise program designed to prevent falls. The video runs for 16 minutes. The exercise video requires clients to use some aids including resistance bands and a cup of marbles.
